So. . . what do you want to be when you grow up?

I swear that was the longest title I've ever put up on my blog haha!

     Yet my point is serious.We've all been asked by our parents and teachers of our ambitions;when we were children, teenagers and young adults.And each time,they hold higher expectations.For most of us,we change our desired ambition all the time as we grow up.When I was around 5 or 6 , I wanted to be a rock-star ,then a doctor,then a vet and an actor etc.  . . its so easy to get inspired with new things.However,as you graduate from high school and its time to choose your university;the pressure question comes:

''What are you going to be?'' ; ''What field will you be doing?'' ; ''Is it medical?Engineering?Fashion?''

     Most grads already know what they're interested in and what they hope to be in the future.But sadly,the world is full of close-minded people who only know how to bring people down instead of up.In some places,its stereotyped that a son or daughter is only 'succesful'  if he/she were to further their studies in medical,enginerring or law.Any other than that shows that are not-so-smart-like-them.

     This sickens me to the core ! Yes,I do agree those studying in those professions are great because it takes brains and patience to take up challenging courses.But don't forget,it also takes INTEREST. Are you interested in studying biotechnology?Is mechanical engineering something you want to do?If no,why bother choosing a career you don't like ?Don't forget that what you choose affects your entire LIFE .

     There are parents who force their children to take up a course that they're not interested in.Imagine someone who wants to do fashion designing and are forced by parents to do Chemistry or something.Its like ;

''I dont care if you like chemistry or not.Fashion designing course are for the ones with bad results and you will not get a career out of it .What am I going to tell your aunts and uncles?That my daughter is doing ARTS while their daughter is doing SCIENCE?"

     How can they do that?We're in a modern world where people can be successful in almost any kind of field..whether its culinary,designing ,arts..whatever.Everyone just needs to open up their eyes and see that there's not only one way to success ,there are thousands.

     I'm eternally grateful to have such understanding and supporting parents who let me choose whatever course I want as long as I can excel in it. I even joked once by saying  '' Even if I work as a tukang sapu sampah,you agree?'' .My dad surprised me by saying ''YES! Why not?Then you can open up your own company that keeps the world clean ..and many people will be grateful of you!'' Gosh,I was so surprised and embarrassed with my stupid remark earlier.In fact,this little conversation actually inspired me to write this post.

     There are thousands out there who are suffering because they were forced to take up a course they don't like ;some very close to my heart.I wish I could help but all I can do is sympathize..That's why many students don't excel in their studies that they have to repeat again and again.Some even drop out and give up studying.And even when they don't  give up and just go with the flow,yes you can get good results.Yes you may get a high position job with a large salary.But will your heart be there?No,You're stuck with what you don't like forever.

     Which is why to sum up this little rant,I would just like to say it out to the adults out there.

 Open your eyes.See the world.Do not force your child to pursue something that YOU want.but rather ,what THEY want .In the end,they're going up to a tertiary education with qualified certificates that many more can't get.Be supportive.Listen to their dreams.Have faith in them and for heavens sake,do NOT compare your children to your friends ,neighbors,and other relatives children.They are not commodities.And trust me,see them shine.

My sincerest apologies should I say some things that are out of line.Till then,make,design your own life .Tata .. :)
